Mission
The West Berks Mission District has established these 4 Priorities for Mission:
Strengthen the impact district congregations make in providing
for those in need.
- Support for pantries in 7 Lutheran congregations
- Provide turkeys at Thanksgiving and hams at Easter for congregations to distribute to folks in need
- Continued support for Family Promise of Berks County, to serve homeless families with children (Program now has over 30 inter-faith congregations participating)
Help youth realize their potential and grow in a community of faith.
- Love for Children Summer Day Camp in partnership with Bear Creek Camp
- Support for after-school programs
- Operation Book Bag – annual collection of school supplies for Reading School District students in need
- Annual youth event with Captive Free
Multiply congregations’ effectiveness by fostering partnerships,
sharing resources and providing a communications hub.
- Communicate with congregations through e-mail and newsletters
- Director attends cluster meetings of rostered leaders
- Assist in writing fund-raising grants for outreach programs
- Provide bookkeeping for: Hospital Visitors Program, Reading Lutheran Parish, and Family Promise
- Staff serve on Synod Council, Thrivent SW Chapter Board, Witness & Service Team, Family Promise Board
- Share laptop & projector
- Provide color printing services
Provide opportunities for fellowship and service.
- Summer outdoor worship services
- Lenten Prayer Breakfast
- Bowl-a-Thon to raise funds for Day Camp
- Parish Administrators’ Luncheon
- Support educational and social events for rostered leaders
