Mission

The West Berks Mission District has established these 4 Priorities for Mission:

Strengthen the impact district congregations make in providing
for those in need.

  1. Support for pantries in 7 Lutheran congregations
  2. Provide turkeys at Thanksgiving and hams at Easter for congregations to distribute to folks in need
  3. Continued support for Family Promise of Berks County, to serve homeless families with children (Program now has over 30 inter-faith congregations participating)


Help youth realize their potential and grow in a community of faith.

  1. Love for Children Summer Day Camp in partnership with Bear Creek Camp
  2. Support for after-school programs
  3. Operation Book Bag – annual collection of school supplies for Reading School District students in need
  4. Annual youth event with Captive Free


Multiply congregations’ effectiveness by fostering partnerships,
sharing resources and providing a communications hub.

  1. Communicate with congregations through e-mail and newsletters
  2. Director attends cluster meetings of rostered leaders
  3. Assist in writing fund-raising grants for outreach programs
  4. Provide bookkeeping for: Hospital Visitors Program, Reading Lutheran Parish, and Family Promise
  5. Staff serve on Synod Council, Thrivent SW Chapter Board, Witness & Service Team,  Family Promise Board
  6. Share laptop & projector
  7. Provide color printing services


Provide opportunities for fellowship and service.

  1. Summer outdoor worship services
  2. Lenten Prayer Breakfast
  3. Bowl-a-Thon to raise funds for Day Camp
  4. Parish Administrators’ Luncheon
  5. Support educational and social events for rostered leaders
